Rev2 Keyboard: Power Supply Removal

Checking, removing, or replacing the internal power supply in the Prophet Rev2 is easy, and only requires a screwdriver.

Tools needed: Phillips head screwdriver and some soft padding like bubble wrap or a towel.

Getting inside the Prophet Rev2:

1. First, unplug all power/MIDI/USB/audio/pedal cables.

2. Now remove the 3 screws from each of the wooden sides.

4. Now remove the 8 screws across the back panel.

Rear Panel Screws

5. Place a piece of soft material behind the Prophet Rev2, such as bubble wrap, a towel, blanket, etc…

6. The top panel is connected to the mainboard with a ribbon cable. Lift the front panel up and off the unit. Place it face down on the soft material behind the Prophet. The ribbon cable does not need to be disconnected.

Removing the internal power supply:

1. IMPORTANT: **MAKE SURE** the IEC mains power cable is disconnected from the socket before continuing.

2. The Rev2 power supply is located in the upper right of the tray above the keybed, and has a black plastic cover. The lower leading edge of the cover is secured to the bottom of the metalwork with a permanent adhesive strip. Lift the top back of the cover towards you and it will easily come up. It can be doubled back on itself and tucked underneath the keybed to service the power supply.

  • Note: The cover is held into place on the top edge by resting underneath the PEM fastener/screw eyelets. When putting the cover back in place, it is important to secure it underneath the PEM fasteners. You may also need to crease the front or back edge of the cover to get it to rest properly.

3. With the cover folded out of the way, this is a good time to inspect the fuse on the power supply. It is located in the lower right.

PSU Fuse

Notes:

  • On a healthy fuse, the metal filament in the center of the glass is intact and will not be discolored. If the filament is missing and/or the glass is tarnished or black, the fuse should be replaced. This will likely restore power to your Prophet Rev2 and you can stop here. If your fuse looks ok upon visual inspection but the power supply does not work, continue to step 4.
  • The fuse part number is T2.5AL250V. It should be removable by hand, or a small flat-bladed screwdriver can also be used on the metal portion of the fuse to pry it free. DO NOT pry the glass with the screwdriver.

4. The power switch connector is the two-wire connector on the right edge of the power supply, to the right of the fuse. The power supply’s 13.5-volt connector is visible on the left side of the power supply. It is an orange vertical rectangle. Remove both connectors by gripping the connector itself and pulling straight up with a slight side to side wiggle. DO NOT pull on the wires.

5. With the power cables disconnected, remove the 4 silver screws holding the power supply to the metal case. The power supply can now be removed.
