Alex Kopp – Third Eye Blind

Alex Kopp is a producer, composer, and musician who originally hails from Canton, Ohio, and is keyboardist for the band Third Eye Blind. He’s also working on various projects for TV and film, and is producing a variety of other artists.

We chatted with Alex about how he’s using the Prophet Rev2.

What made you choose the Rev2?

“DSI is one of those brands that you just can’t beat. Growing up in and around studios, I’ve seen Prophets and used them on and off for as long as I can remember. It was time for me to get a ‘classic’ piece of gear to have out on the road.

How are you using it?

“I’m using the Prophet Rev2 as my only analog synth on the road for a lot of sub basses and pads. We are working in the studio constantly, so I see this evolving into a wider range of things in the near future.

What’s one of your favorite things about it?

“One of my favorite things about the Rev2, besides incredible richness of its sound, is the routeability of its modulation and LFOs, which really give you a big range of things you can do and create with this synth. Coming from mostly using soft synths recently, I find this super useful.”

What does it give you that other instruments don’t?

“I think the Rev2, along with all DSI synths, have a sound quality unlike most poly synths on the market. It’s a classic, warm, fat, analog sound that really works well in many types of music and environments. Also, the build quality is a rugged, strong design that holds up great on the road.”

Any interesting tricks or techniques you’d like to share?

“I don’t have anything crazy that I am doing at the moment. But again, it’s super fun to mess with routing and modulation to get results that you might not have been looking for. I think this is so much fun.
